Embracing Our Inner Fashionista

This is not a political endorsement. This is a fashion endorsement.
Clothing. Accessories.

From head to toe, I consistently love Michelle Obama's fashion choices.
One day I noticed that much of my wardrobe mirrored the way Michelle dresses,
and I realized my style is very Obamaesque.

This book made me do the happy dance all the way to the cash register because.....
I found it at the dollar store!

The internet is my source for photos of Michelle Obama shown below.

Michelle looks fabulous in this trendy salmon color we are seeing lately.
This is a little dressy for my taste but I have a similar jacket.

A recent find, this adorable salmon jacket from St. Vinney's cost me $3.98.
I don't imagine Michelle has the time to browse St. Vinney's.

Picture a gray shirt underneath, dark jeans, gray flats and large earrings.
I love details, especially this collar and buttons.

Yes, I'm definitely thinking gray accessories with the salmon jacket.
Would you consider my earrings Obamaesque? Target - $7.99

Love the large flower print on this summer dress Michelle is wearing.
Large prints and bright colors look stunning on her.

I have a large flower print summer dress, too!
Some might call it a bit loud, but I feel happy when I wear it.

Again, it's all in the details.More buttons.
Clearance plus discount made this outlet dress affordable for me.

Michelle can certainly pull off wearing bright colors.
The cut of her dress is very flattering.

My Obamaesque dress, same cut and style, in a different bright fabric.
Another St. Vinney's $3.98 treasure.

Do you think Michele likes button details as much as I do?
Look close, my previously loved dress is even lined!.

Steve has had no input into this post for obvious reasons.
Thank goodness his taste in women is much better than his taste in clothing :)

Today, I will not leave you with scripture,
I will leave you with words of encouragement.

1.No matter what your age, think YES when it comes to style.
(At 54,  it's more important than ever for me to feel good about what I'm wearing)

2. Don't be afraid to wear color, lots of color.
(I believe color can and will brighten everything in your world)

3. If you have what YOU see as an imperfection, own it.
Yes, I'll say it again, own it girlfriends, and be proud!
(I have Melasma on my face, neck, and arms and I don't hide it)

More to come on embracing our inner Fashionista.

  3. Such great and beautiful burgains! I like the big print dresses she wears, that's caz she's so tall, I guess, I can't really, not big prints at least.
I also heard Mrs. Obama closes stores in Paris to shop only for herself...what a life! Have a great weekend. FABBY

  7. pretty pretty. yes I can see as first lady.. yep I can.
My attire is a bit more gypsyish, has been since my teens.

  9. At 59 I am not sure how to dress anymore. Palm Desert is FULL of women my age, and much older, so I should have plenty of examples. I am afraid of dressing too young but I still don't want to dress frumpy.

I seem to have lost my style... so I go to HomeGoods and buy things for the house!

  12. Loving this, Marla. I have an awful lot of black pants and tops, but I do try to add a pop of color with a jacket or jewelry. When I add that little pop of color, it makes me happy.

  16. Seriously. She is always so perfect. And I will agree with Tammy @ Beatrice Banks: Your jacket is actually cuter. So shall we term that as Alwaysnestingesque? :) Loved your blog and adding as must reads.

  18. I especially love her $42,000 diamond let them eat cake bracelets she wore recently. Also, those $600 tennis shoes at the White House gardening photo ops.

  19. You're right: Michelle Obama has great style and always looks like a million bucks. Then again, I guess most First Ladies look nice--I guess dressing nicely goes with the job.

I love your St. Vinney's finds! And you're in good shape, so I'm sure you look stunning in them.
